You Came Like Spring
– Paraskevi (Voula) Memou – GREECE
On the cherries’ birthday,
the loneliness of nature
found solace and hope.
How can I fall silent before such a harmony and splendor?
With blossoms in hair,
and a piece of sun in the place of heart,
you became spring,
light and life,
and you came to the feast at the crack of dawn.
We will weave together,
this spring’s wreath,
with wildflowers and wild roses.
You will speak and I will remain silent.
I will remain silent and you will sing to me
the approach of swallows.
Your touch… like rare stalactites
in an armful of armoured promises
of sealed secrets and mysteries.
Sunrise colors pacified the storm,
in the cavern of unguarded sighs,
planting armfuls of May roses
in the butterfly forest.
Maybe I was born this spring
or I bore moon roads in the midwinter.
