Ganga Utsav was an important event organized by the Uluberia-1 Block Administration, focusing on the theme “Clean Ganga, Our Commitment.” The festival took place at the Kaligar Ganga Ghat in the Uluberia-1 Block, with the primary goal of promoting the importance of keeping the Ganga river free from pollution. The initiative also aimed to encourage proper and responsible use of the river’s resources. This event is part of the broader efforts under the central government’s “Namami Gange” scheme, which is designed to protect and maintain the cleanliness of the Ganges. Additionally, the event received support from the state government’s WSPMG scheme and the Howrah District Ganga Committee, highlighting the collaborative efforts in tackling river pollution.
The central aim of the Ganga Utsav festival was to prevent pollution of the Ganga and to educate the local community about the significance of maintaining the river’s health. During the event, Block Development Officer H M Riajul Hoque actively participated in a cleaning drive, symbolically joining the effort with a broom in hand. In his speech, he expressed concern about the serious state of pollution affecting the Ganga. He emphasized that both the Central and State Governments are committed to combating this issue through various programs and initiatives. However, he also stressed the crucial role that the general public plays in this effort, urging them to view the river as part of their family. Collective action is essential for keeping the Ganga clean and ensuring its future sustainability.
Several notable figures were present at the festival, including Uluberia-1 Panchayat Samiti President Atindra Shekhar Pramanik, Executive Officer Ajijul Islam Molla, Sk Mofijul, the Chief of Kaligar Gram Panchayat Sekh Derasat Hossain, and philanthropist Salim Molla. These dignitaries joined the Block Development Officer in making a collective pledge to maintain the cleanliness of the Ganga. Their commitment aims to ensure that the river remains safe and usable for future generations, reflecting a unified approach to environmental stewardship and community responsibility. The festival served as a vital reminder of the shared responsibility in protecting one of India’s most important natural resources.
