Sharad Book Stall was organized as a significant cultural event by the CPIM Jangipur Area Committee located in Murshidabad. This stall attracted a considerable number of visitors, all eager to explore and purchase a variety of books. However, it is important to note that the collection available at this stall was exclusively centered around Marxist and progressive literature. This limited selection raised interest in understanding what exactly constitutes Marxist and progressive literature.
Marxist literature primarily addresses themes of class struggle, economic inequality, and the quest for human freedom. It sheds light on the everyday challenges faced by workers, farmers, and those who belong to lower economic classes. This type of literature serves not only to narrate their struggles but also to promote values associated with communism and humanitarian principles. According to the ideas presented in Marxist philosophy, the economic structure of a society significantly influences its literature. As a result, writers in the Marxist tradition examine the relationships involved in production within society, envisioning a future where humans achieve liberation through a collective fight against various forms of exploitation.
On the other hand, progressive literature encompasses a broader set of ideals focused on social progress, equality, and the promotion of human values rooted in a communist ideology. This genre tends to oppose oppressive systems such as fascism, colonialism, and imperialism, along with any other forms of exploitation that hinder human development. Overall, both Marxist and progressive literature aim to inspire change, encourage critical thinking, and foster a vision of a more just and equitable society. Through their respective narratives, they seek to resonate with readers and raise awareness of the ongoing struggles faced by marginalized groups.
