A crucial initiative aimed at supporting rural livestock farmers has recently been launched. The Department of Animal Resources Development has renewed its commitment to its objectives from previous years. The main goals of this program involve fostering self-reliance among rural communities and striving for self-sufficiency in egg production throughout the state. To achieve these aims, the department started a program to distribute high-yield egg-laying ducks and chickens specifically in the Uluberia-1 Block in June 2024.
On December 18, 2024, a key distribution event took place in the Hatgacha-1 and Hatgacha-2 Gram Panchayat areas. At this significant gathering, 265 beneficiaries from Hatgacha-1 and 175 beneficiaries from Hatgacha-2 each received 10 improved-breed chicks. As a direct outcome of this distribution, a total of 4,400 egg-laying chicks were shared among 440 beneficiaries.
The inauguration of this important program was honored by several distinguished guests. The ceremony included the participation of the Honorable Block Development Officer, HM Riajul Hoque, the President of Uluberia-1 Panchayat Samiti, Atindramohan Pramanik, and BLDO Dr. Amit Chalaki. Additionally, Sheikh Mofizul, the Standing Committee Chairman for Fisheries and Animal Resource Development, and Subhra Das, the Standing Committee Chairman for Education, Culture, Information, and Sports, were also present at the event.
This initiative has stirred considerable excitement among rural livestock farmers, particularly women. It has ignited their interest in poultry farming. By fostering this interest, the program will not only aid in the economic advancement of the villages but will also enhance the social status of the participants. Such initiatives are creating new prospects for rural communities and helping to unlock their potential for sustainable growth.
